In today's environment, nonprofit organizations everywhere are faced with more community need and less sources for funding. To effectively serve the community under today's competitive environment, nonprofits need skilled, professional management and leadership.

The Nonprofit Leaders Network offers a wide range of management consulting services to help nonprofit organizations develop better management skills and operate more effectively. Network members can choose between a consultant through the Nonprofit Leaders Network or an outside professional consultant depending on their organization's needs.

Our management consulting services include the following:

Organizational Assessment
A comprehensive organizational assessment of your agency's management and governance development. Using tools developed by the Network, a consultant will review and make recommendations in the following areas: Board of Directors, Executive Director, Financial Management, Fund Development, Human Resource Management, Volunteer Utilization, Outcome Measurement and Strategic and Operational Planning. The assessment includes a survey of your internal constituents, document review, and extensive interviews with key staff and board personnel. Executive/Staff Team Building and Coaching
Retreats and sessions can be developed to assist Executive Directors and leadership staff with management opportunities and challenges such as Director Mentoring, Conflict Resolution, Transitional Planning, Public Speaking and Organizational Skills. Staff retreats can include team building exercises, departmental planning and empathy training.

Board Development/Orientation
There are three board development trainings offered through the Network: Board Orientation for new board members, Board Development for existing boards and Start-Up Board Development for organizations which have been in existence for less than 2 years. Each of the trainings are customized to the needs of the organization. The Board Development trainings includes an interview with the executive director and board chairman, pre-surveys if appropriate and a presentation summarizing the results of the training with recommendations.

Fundraising
There are three types of fundraising sessions available through the Network:
1) A comprehensive audit and assessment of your agency's fund-raising program conducted by a consultant using tools developed by the Network. The Development Audit includes extensive interviews with the executive director, key development staff, the board president, and the board development committee. A written report is provided setting forth strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for improvement in your fund development program. A presentation summarizing the results of the report is made to your development committee or full board.
2) Board fundraising training sessions focus on the basics of fundraising and the role of the board in fund-raising that is presented to the board, development committee, executive director, and/or development staff. Includes pre-workshop interviews with executive director, board president, development director, and other key development staff and board personnel to provide consultant with information about the agency's development program. Training session includes emphasis on agency's unique issues and assistance in preparation of development plan.
3) Staff fundraising training sessions focus on the basics of fundraising, how to develop a fundraising volunteer committee, developing metrics for fundraising activities, grant assistance and fundraising planning.

Grant Proposal Review
Network members can submit their grant proposals for review by a professional grantwriter. Proposals must be received at least a week in advance of submission. This is a benefit for Sponsoring Members ONLY. To date, over 35 grant proposals have been submitted for review through the Network and 100% of those proposals have been successfully funded.

Strategic Planning
A strategic planning process for your board to determine where your organization wants to be in the future and how to get there. Consultant facilitates the process and leads the board and executive director through the development of the strategic plan. Consultation can be a one-day board retreat or over the course of several planning sessions with a strategic planning committee or the full board. The development of the plan is based on current operations and future goals, the internal and external environment of the organization, and the scope of the organization's mission. Process includes extensive interviews with the executive director, board president, strategic planning committee, and other key board personnel. The entire board or strategic planning committee may be required to participate in pre-planning exercises, such as questionnaires and surveys.

Legal Consultation
The legal review and revision by an attorney of your agency's by-laws, articles of incorporation, minor corporate contracts, and commercial leases.

Financial Management Consultation
A customized consultation is provided in the area of financial management based in your organization's unique needs. Consultations vary in scope and may include a general review of your financial health, budget, and budget development process, function of finance committee and board oversight of financial matters, relation of operational planning goals to available funding, and financial record-keeping, reporting and compliance.

Effective Use of Volunteer Resources
Customized consultation sessions with a volunteer management consultant, specific to your agency’s needs. These sessions might include: volunteer program audit – an on-site look at your existing volunteer program, evaluating recruitment, retention, productivity and volunteer evaluation; new volunteer program development; curriculum and training design; volunteer staff coaching; training for agency staff on working with volunteers; assisting your organization in hiring a top performer in the volunteer management field.

Marketing and Communications
There are two types of marketing and communications consultations: 1) the Network will perform a communication audit and give you feedback on how to improve your current marketing materials and 2) a Marketing and Communications workshop can show you how to analyze and measure your current marketing and communications efforts, the steps to develop successful marketing and communications plans, and how to design and distribute appropriate and effective communication materials. There is also training provided for writing and distributing Press Releases, PSA's and other forms of promotion communications.
