United Way Nonprofit Leaders Network
Our Success Stories...
In six short years, TheatreWorks Community Players has grown from a small group of volunteers presenting one summer musical a year to a 501 (c)3 non-profit with a new black box theatre on Courthouse Square in Uptown Martinsville, a season of four productions this year, and summer camps and workshops for kids and adults. It is still the volunteers that have made the difference -- over three hundred and sixty people have volunteered their time and talents on and off the stage to showcase the incredible talent in this community.

Nonprofit Management Curriculum

 Non-Profit Leadership Training Courses
Offered by Patrick Henry Community College this Fall, 2010

Introduction to Non-Profits
Instructor: Nancy Bell Dethlefson
This class provides the participants with an overview of how nonprofit organizations differ from both government and for-profit organizations. Properly leading and managing an organization requires a clear understanding of why nonprofit organizations exist and their role in the economic and societal elements of society. Understanding the proper role of the nonprofit organization assists in identifying the appropriate mission of the nonprofit organization. This class also provides the participants with a method for developing and implementing a business plan designed to guide the nonprofit organization in attaining its mission. Business planning is a formalized process by which a nonprofit organization develops a plan to secure its future.
