HomeFor nearly a century, nonprofit organizations have fulfilled a variety of functions that help build and maintain communities. They offer resources to residents including social services, advocacy, cultural experiences, volunteer opportunities, monitoring of government and business practices, and recently, studies show they create the building blocks for economic development.
Knowing this, United Way, with a generous grant provided by the Harvest Foundation, launched the Nonprofit Capacity Building Initiative in 2004 to strengthen the capacity and collective power of our local nonprofit sector in order to enhance the quality of life in Martinsville and Henry County.
Today, United Way’s Nonprofit Leaders Network partners with the Patrick Henry Community College, Virginia Tech, other local educational providers, the Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and generous donors to ensure our nonprofit organizations have access to ongoing training, technology resources and assistance in the areas of organizational development, growth and sustainability, communication, collaboration and sharing of resources.
The Nonprofit Leaders Network is focused on enhancing and building local nonprofit leadership, resources, and outreach. We know that working together is the best way to strengthen our ability to improve the quality of life in our community.
